Toppan Forms Payment Service and Rakuten Edy Reach the Basic Agreement to Provide "Rakuten Edy" e-Money on Cloud Based Payment Service "Thincacloud"

February 27, 2013

Toppan Forms Payment Service Co., Ltd.

Toppan Forms Payment Service Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo Japan, Representative Director & President; Jiro Kurobane, TFPS hereunder) which is a Toppan Forms Co., Ltd. (Toppan Forms hereunder) group company and Rakuten Edy, Inc. (Head Office: Tokyo Japan Representative Director & President: Yoshihisa Yamada, Rakuten Edy hereunder) reached the basic agreement to provide "Rakuten Edy" e-Money payment service on the cloud based payment platform service operated by TFPS starting November 2013.

Rakuten Edy commented that "Thincacloud" was selected because they "highly rate the cost advantage over conventional e-Money system and the potential of new internet based payment schemes".

"Thincacloud" is an e-Money payment platform that uses NFC technology. What sets it apart from the conventional system is the service that can be provided "onsite" at the store through a wide range of devices such as rapidly increasing smart phone and tablet terminal as well as conventional hand held terminal and POS register for business.

Since "Thincacloud" is a payment platform based on NFC (Near Field Communication), it can be integrated into the current FeliCa based e-money service. Consolidating these services allows multiple terminals on the cash register to be unified. The same common terminal also enables new O2O (Online to Offline) customer induction marketing using NFC.

When purchasing products "offsite" such as an online store, many consumers feel cumbersome to enter credit card information and reluctant to take the last step to purchase due to concerns of their information being stolen. Additionally, missed opportunities may occur when consumers, such as non-adult and house maker, are not eligible to own a credit card,."Thincacloud" resolves these hassles and concerns and provides safe and convenient e-Money payment service for online merchants.
Furthermore, the "onsite" and "offsite" e-Money payment conventionally use entirely separate system, and as a result, the gap between the two had to be filled by the merchant's system. "Thincacloud" manages both "onsite" and "offsite" payment with one system, which eliminates the cumbersome management, as well as reduce e-Money sales management cost for the retail merchant.

With the new addition of "Rakuten Edy" to the "Thincacloud" platform, which has already been operating "nanaco", TFPS will continue to add other e-Money brands with an objective to provide convenient service to consumers and merchants.
Toppan Forms aims to achieve 4 billion yen in sales in 2015 by promoting NFC related business based on "Thincacloud" provided by TFPS.
