Toppan Forms Develops Ondemand Form layout Technology Platform "WebDolphin" Enabling Forms to be Digitized from One Source to be Displayed on Multi-Device

Information Management Solution Provider Toppan Forms Co., Ltd. (Toppan Forms hereunder) developed and started to offer a variable layout technology platform service - "WebDolphin" - that centrally manages digital print data such as texts and layouts that enable forms such as notification to be displayed appropriately in accordance to viewer's device. "WebDolphin" stores transactional and form layout data for form printing in the database, and dynamically generates PDF or image ondemand in an appropriate format on the viewer's display. The layout and transactional data originally intended for print can now be variably displayed for view on multiple devices. By combining technology platform with web application, optimum formats - PDF for PC and HTML for Smart Phone - can be displayed, depending on the viewer's device enabling flexibility and variability that contributes to improvement of service to users. By combining PDF conversion service for print and this new technology platform, Toppan Forms will continue to provide "Digital Messaging Solution (DMS)" that comprehensively supports the client's forms digitization.

Paper based printed matter are increasingly digitized due to the advent of information technology and network. As the leading company of Data Print Service (DPS) that variably prints notification information using the address and names received from client companies, Toppan Forms has been providing PDF conversion to digitize printed images. Using the expertise of a print provider, "WebDolphin" enhances its service to develop a competitive solution that can offer both paper and digital format variably and ondemand.


  • 1. Ondemand
    The technology provides not only pre-processed information but also ondemand digital viewing of most recent information enabling realtime service that contributes to increased customer satisfaction.
  • 2. Variable
    In comparison to the fixed fill-in column layout of a conventional form, the new format provides variable layout form allowing fill-in only on necessary column in accordance to the application condition
  • 3. Interactive
    Information can be entered and corrected via the web on the displayed form image. It can generate PDF ondemand for confirmation, allowing automatic entry check that makes traditionally heavy burden back office operation significantly efficient for correcting incomplete information.
  • 4. Ecology
    It contributes to clients consideration to the environment and cost reduction by providing paperless solution.

Supplement Information on the Technology

  • 1. WebDolphin is composed of three modules – "Connect Function", "Layout Function " and "Content Management System (CMS)" . The generic application programming interface (API) through Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) connects and controls these modules. This allows the data to be constantly in synch with the client’s system, and to be flexible even when the form data storage is located on the client side.
  • 2. The layout engine, automatically composed on the web, provides optimum format for the application and layout command using common API, regardless the layout engine.
  • 3. The cloud service platform using the technology is flexible and scalable, optimally meeting the service needs of clients.

Future Development

Toppan Forms aims to sell over 2.6 billion yen of DMS by the end of 2015.
