TOPPAN FORMS Announces the First Domestically Created Hybrid-Type ID Card Issuance System That Can Realize High Security Levels and Full-Color Expression

March 14, 2017

DigitalHybrid Company TOPPAN FORMS CO., LTD. (TOPPAN FORMS, hereunder) is pleased to announce that it has developed a hybrid-type ID card issuance system that can realize high security levels and full-color expression. TOPPAN FORMS achieved simultaneous control of both laser-type and ribbon-type units to create the first* domestically produced hybrid-type ID card issuance system, which enables high-quality, high-security-level ID cards to be issued in continuously.
The laser-type unit creates color development within the card and can express denser and clearer characters and images than the ribbon-type unit, which transcribes ink on the surface. It also has superior scratch resistance. This system produces monochromatic photographs of people’s faces within the card using the laser-type unit and full-color photographs of people’s faces on the surface of the card using the ribbon-type unit. This system can be used to increase security by comparing these different types of photographs. When conducting simultaneous control of both units, ID Kobo, the ID card issuance software that we developed can be used. In addition, we also realized the miniaturization and price-decrease of each unit, considering their use in an office environment.
It is expected that there will be stronger demand for ID cards with higher security levels in terms of preventing falsification and fabrication. TOPPAN FORMS will expand its sales of optimal cards and ID card issuance systems to meet these demands.
