RFID Used for Visualization of Prescription Process
Gunma University Hospital Receives Auto ID System Grand Prize
Pharmaceutical Management Provided by Toppan Forms

September 10, 2012

"Pharmaceutical Process Management System" provided to Gunma University Hospital Pharmaceutical Department by Toppan Forms Co., Ltd. (Toppan Forms), an information management solution provider, received the 14th Auto-Identification System Award presented by Japan Automatic Identification Systems Association (JAISA). Previously, there was no method to check the drug preparation in the medial ward except to inquire directly to the pharmaceutical department by phone which caused frequent interruption of drug preparation. The introduction of the new system enables to visualize number of prescription waiting by drug preparation process, number of prescription processed per unit hour, and drug preparation progress status. Drug preparation status can be viewed by web based application on any 1,300 units of electronic medical record terminals in the hospital. Gunma University's medical information science department assistant professor Kouta Torikai commented "We hope the system will satisfy both patient and medical staff by reducing number of inquiries and drug preparation errors as well as allowing simultaneous status viewing from multiple websites".

The award was given to recognize the expected effectiveness of the actual operation in the medical field where previously there were only pilot projects implemented. Details of the system will be announced at the 14th Auto-ID Expo hosted by JAISA which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight on September 12 through 14.

System Configuration

Feature Plans

This system is a customized version of logistic management package system "Logiviewer" developed by Toppan Forms especially for the hospital pharmaceutical operation. Highly generic features give little impact to the current pharmaceutical process. Toppan Forms aims to market to 10 other hospitals in 2015 as a medical solution. Furthermore, the company plans to advance the visualization level by expanding the application to increased kinds of pharmaceutical operation as well as in-patient ward operation and linking them to other medical system utilizing HL7 standard protocol.
