TOPPAN FORMS Selected as “Competitive IT Strategy Company” for 3rd Consecutive Year
-Utilizing IT for developing new hybrid business models and creating businesses-

May 31, 2017

DigitalHybrid Company TOPPAN FORMS CO., LTD. (“TOPPAN FORMS” hereunder) has been selected as a “FY2017 Competitive IT Strategy Company” by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Tokyo Stock Exchange, recognized as a business striving to utilize IT for creating new businesses and values. TOPPAN FORMS has earned the recognition for the third consecutive year.

TOPPAN FORMS initiatives

TOPPAN FORMS has set the promotion of DigitalHybrid as a strategy under its FY2017 basic policy. The company strives to expand its base for the Enterprise Form Management Service (EFMS), which is compatible with both paper and digitalized forms, and accelerate the expansion of solutions that combine paper media and IT, with an aim to improve its corporate value.

Specific measures

  • 1. Increasing competitiveness by developing EFMS, a hybrid forms management platform
TOPPAN FORMS has developed and provides EFMS, a hybrid forms management platform compatible with both paper and digitalized forms. EFMS has gained market dominance by not only reducing operational and cost burdens on companies sending communications but also improving convenience for end users as recipients of the communications. In addition, personal information is entrusted only to TOPPAN FORMS, thereby contributing to safe, secure and appropriate business operations from the viewpoint of information security.
  • 2. Development and sales promotion of “Thincacloud,” a cloud-based payment platform that offers a range of flexible payment options
TOPPAN FORMS has developed “Thincacloud,” a cloud-based payment platform, and has been promoting it. This platform has cryptographic processing and other data processing for payments handled on the cloud, enabling the minimization of the payment terminal device’s functions. It also permits the use of smartphones and similar devices as payment terminal devices. This means that the platform can be used not only for payment in stores but also at outdoor mobile stalls and for internet shopping, enabling e-money payment to be used more widely. “Thincacloud” is also equipped with a charging function. It has been adopted for the service infrastructure of the multi e-money charger being developed by PFU Limited. It is a single charging machine that is compatible with multiple major digital currencies, the first of its kind in the e-money industry*.
At present, TOPPAN FORMS is taking the initiative in responding to payment terminals manufactured overseas, which are being introduced in response to the increase of demand from inbound tourists, ahead of other companies in the industry, thereby permitting e-money payment in diverse settings. At the same time, the company accelerates its initiatives for driving the growth of the TOPPAN FORMS Group.

Competitive IT Strategy Company (excerpt from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s website)

Rapid advances in IT, represented by IoT, big data and AI, are transforming industrial structures and business models at an unprecedented pace. In order for Japanese companies to succeed amid international competition in this era of great changes, it is not enough to engage in defensive IT investments for the purpose of increasing the efficiency and convenience of internal operations, as has been the case until now. It is vital for companies to make strategic and aggressive IT investments that will contribute to improving the mid- to long-term corporate value and fortifying competitiveness.
Against this background, METI selects TSE-listed companies that are actively engaging in efforts of IT utilization to create new value and improve management innovations, earnings and productivity, and introduces them to the public as the Competitive IT Strategy Company Stocks.
