To Initiate Provision of Multilingual Type AI-OCR Solution

Digital Hybrid Company TOPPAN FORMS CO., LTD. (TOPPAN FORMS, hereunder) announces that it concludes a distributor agreement with ABBYY Japan Co., Ltd. (ABBYY Japan, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Head of ABBYY Japan: Yo Ohara, ABBYY, hereunder), an affiliate of ABBYY, a global leader in the AI-OCR realm, initiating sales of ABBYY’s AI, server-based OCR software “ABBYY Recognition Server” and next-generation document processing software, “ABBYY FlexiCapture” (ABBYY, hereunder). In addition, by supporting the setup (table definition), which is necessary for reading forms and documents by ABBYY, TOPPAN FORMS contributes to the business process reengineering (BPR) of its customers.

ABBYY is intended to be used mainly for text forms and documents and is suitable for operations with multiple languages and formats. The reading field is not by each format, but a table style is employed, and by implementing one setting, text recognition is made possible. Therefore, reading of new data can be initiated by utilizing an existing setting, achieving a significant improvement of routine operations of companies.
TOPPAN FORMS will coordinate RPA (Robotics Process Automation), which more companies will introduce in the future, and ABBYY, supporting further improvement of efficiency.

ABBYY Recognition Serverの概要

Japan continues, to promote work style reform, initiatives to improve productivity. Among these initiatives, the number of companies focusing on improving the efficiency of back-office operations, particularly routine operations, is increasing rapidly.
TOPPAN FORMS has provided a wide range of solutions that help to improve the efficiency of customer operations. With the start of the provision of ABBYY, the flexible design of operations suitable for each case of use is made possible. Through the provision of solutions that can respond to the high level needs of our customers, TOPPAN FORMS will help improve customer productivity.

Introduction in BPO Center

TOPPAN FORMS not only sells ABBYY, but plans to introduce it in its BPO Center. With this introduction, TOPPAN FORMS will introduce in its environment “Handwritten Form Conversion Service with AI-OCR,” which utilizesthe “Tegaki” OCR technology for handwritten documents of Cogent Labs Inc. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Representative Directors: Jun Iinuma, Eric Whiteway) and ABBYY, significantly expanding the type of forms and documents that can be handled for OCR operations. Therefore, TOPPAN FORMS can help to improve the efficiency of the back-office operations of its customers by providing tools and building an environment for using its product, while also enabling its BPO Center to operate a commissioned business. TOPPAN FORMS provides a BPO service with high added value that can respond to a range of applications.

Future development

TOPPAN FORMS will seek to expand sales of this solution to a wide range of sectors, such as financial institutions, distribution, wholesale, services, and local government, where a large number of handwritten or printed forms are used. In addition, the range of application of this solution will be expanded to reading from not only of forms, but to papers (theses, academic books, etc.) and documents (procedural manuals, business reports, etc.), and annual reports and planning documents.
Going forward, securing data for artificial intelligence (AI) to learn is essential as AI, which needs detailed data, emerges. Therefore, in addition to the digitalization of ledger sheets in routine operations, demand for creating data for AI is expected to increase, expanding demand for AI-OCR more than ever.
TOPPAN FORMS will introduce ABBYY in 50 companies by FY2020, aiming to post total sales of 150 million yen from sales to support introduction/development.
