Thincacloud Payment Infrastructure Adopted to Standardize Payment Systems for Amusement Facilities
Promoting the Spread of Cashless Payments in the Amusement Industry

Feb 7, 2020

TOPPAN FORMS CO., LTD. (hereinafter “TOPPAN FORMS”) and TF PAYMENT SERVICE CO., LTD. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kyogo Suenaga; hereinafter “TFPS”) are pleased to announce that Thincacloud, TFPS’s cloud-based payment platform, has been adopted as a payment infrastructure in a measure to standardize e-money payment systems for amusement facilities formulated by the Japan Amusement Industry Association (located in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Osamu Satomi; hereinafter “JAIA”).

Under this measure, whose purpose is to promote the spread of cashless payment in the amusement industry, the four JAIA member companies, KAGA ELECTRONICS CO.,LTD. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & COO: Ryoichi Kado), Konami Amusement Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Ichinomiya-shi, Aichi; Representative Director and President: Katsunori Okita), SEGA Interactive Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Yukio Sugino), and TOPPAN FORMS agreed to work jointly on the standardization of e-money payment systems used in next-generation payment terminals, in collaboration with JAIA.

Functions of each party

The widespread use of standardized e-money payments is likely to produce the results below and is also expected to enhance user convenience and result in the growth of the amusement industry.

  • 1. Enhancement of user convenience through the widespread use of amusement machines able to accept cashless payments, and flexible adaptation to a cashless society
  • 2.Facilitation of the correct charging of consumption taxes at amusement facilities
  • 3.Reduction in management workload, such as the management of sale proceeds and changes at amusement facilities that face a labor shortage
  • 4.Provision of services with fee payment systems incorporated into game software
  • 5.Strengthening of the sales management structure by promoting the introduction of point of sale (POS) systems

In addition, we aim to establish a compatible system that enables amusement industry companies to continue to use their already installed or in-use e-money payment systems, taking into account the reduction of burdens at facilities with systems already installed.

So far, as several incompatible e-money payment systems exist, the installation of a cashless payment platform is not progressing at amusement facilities, delaying the spread of cashless payment systems and causing lost sales opportunities and other disadvantages.

Future Development

In the Cashless Vision formulated by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, a cashless payment ratio of 40% is set as the target to be achieved by 2025, in anticipation of the increasing number of foreign tourists to Japan for large-scale events, such as the Tokyo Olympic Games and Osaka World Expo. TOPPAN FORMS and TFPS will continue to contribute to the amusement industry’s alignment with this trend and the improvement of customer convenience and services at amusement facilities, through their provision and and operation of Thincacloud.
